March 11, 2020
The Sangamon Valley Public Water District’s Board met on March 10, 2020 in a Special Meeting to develop a plan for mitigating and managing the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) on our staff and our community.
The District’s top priority is ensuring continuous safe, clean drinking water and as such, we are taking some precautionary measures to limit contact within our buildings and a plan to ensure staff is safe and we have plans in place to maintain “business as usual” as this virus impacts our community. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is known to spread from person to person through close contact, similar to how the flu is transmitted. There is currently no evidence to support that Coronavirus (COVID-19) is transmitted through drinking water. Coronavirus (COVID-19) can be disinfected through use of ozone, chlorine and other treatment processes, which we use, in processing your tap water.
Additionally, the governors of many states (including Illinois) have declared states of emergency due to COVID-19. Effective immediately, Sangamon Valley Public Water District is restricting access to the Administrative Building for customers making payments through April 27th, 2020, in order to help reduce the risk of potential exposure to our staff and community members. At this time we will remain open during normal business hours, we are simply limiting access into the facilities.
We are asking that all customers use the following payment options at this time:
- Pay by Mail – P.O. Box 285 Mahomet, IL 61853
- Pay by Drop Box @ Casey’s
- Pay by Drop Box outside of the Administrative Building
- Pay by Phone
- Pay Online
More information will be communicated to the District’s residents as it becomes available. We at SVPWD take our commitment to you, our community, seriously. We will communicate changes as we know them and appreciate your flexibility and willingness to work with us through this process.
