Hardness Notice

Sangamon Valley Public Water District

Hardness Notice

Date: September 25, 2019

Dear SVPWD Residents,

It has come to our attention through rigorous testing and quality control, that the water you are using and consuming could be harder than is standard for our District.

General guidelines for classification of water hardness:

0 to 75 mg/L

76 to 150 mg/L

moderately hard

151 to 200 mg/L

>200 mg/L

very hard

Our goal is to stay around 90 mg/L. Due to a recent issues with one of our softening units we have been experiencing hardness levels between 100-200 mg/L.

Because of this issue, you could experience the following side effects:

  • Mineral Buildup around water fixtures
  • Soap scum on bathtub, curtains, or doors
  • Dry itchy skin
  • Dull scratchy clothing
  • Spots on dishes, flatware, and glasses

Please understand that this issue is temporarily and we anticipate this to be resolved in 2-6 weeks, as soon as our new softening unit arrives and is installed. We greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing you.

Please feel free to contact our General Manager Kerry Gifford, with any questions regarding this, at kgifford@svpwd.com, or at 217-586-2534.
